For me everything before the 2000's is oldskool. I just use oldskool for the term what I listened back then and am still listening, and since I'm from '92, that shit is oldskool to me.

This song is dope.

these days, newer rap fans seem to use the term to refer any 'old' hip-hop act rather than for any specific generation...i've heard ppl refer to 2Pac and Biggie Smalls as 'old school', altho most hip-hop heads wudn't call them that.
Corallis (December 31, 1969 at 5:59 pm)
technically, 'old school' is a term we use for the first generation of hip-hop from the seventies up to about 1988-ish. so, artists like Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Kool Moe Dee...Rakim & G Rap would be properly termed 'Golden Age'.

Rakim used multies heavily, but i do not recall him using that rapid-fire style with the same vowels before G Rap (Follow the Leader being the closest Rakim song i can relate to that style prior to 1990).
