Pop was meant to be tongue in cheek, taking the piss out of their earlier serious selves(rattle and hum etc)

This video elicits a "what." about every 5 or 10 seconds when I watch it.

This just makes me laugh. They seem like they were trying to be so high tech and original yet failed miserably unless it was tongue in cheek, then I would apologise. Radioheads Idioteque blows this song out of the water.

U2 is very versatile of their musical style. They're always challenging themselves. But this is hands down the oddest moment of the band. This video was so shocking that I was still the entire time back then.

It's unbelievable to me how many of these comments make absolutely no sense. It's great that you can name every song on a certain album yet to mention that one of the most influencial bands are described as "superficial pop" is astounding. Open your minds and see that every tune has a different message for each of us on our own to decifer. Appreciate it how you will and enjow...

I agree. Though there are a few exceptions in the last 2 albums, specifically ATYCLB. Have you ever heard the song "Kite"? Bono poured his heart and soul into the making of that one. There are really only a few hints of true u2 music within the other songs. I started out purely on albums War-Achtung Baby. Now Boy, Pop, Zooropa, and October are most listened to. Well, and achtung baby =] that album's amazing. "don't let the bastards grind you down"

HM, TM, KM, KM is one of their best but it didn´t work so well live. I don´t the reason...

I think The Red Hot Chili Peppers parable is very good although I don´t know much about Pepper´s music ´cause I only have the album Californication. But why U2 and RHCP are now doing the music they´re doing? Have they simply ran out of fresh ideas? Are they lazy?Nowadays U2 wins all the Grammys and U2 sells millions of records... yeah whatever man. Pop didn´t win any Grammys but it´s 1 000 000 times better than the last two albums.Remember the megalomaniac hype before HTDAAB?

You´re saying that because of Popmart tour U2 was close from bankruptcy? I don´t think they lost that much money.I read somewhere that the prise of Popmart tour was 100 million dollars and band made 80 million dollars from it. So they lost only 20 million dollars. If these figures are right it doesn´t sound like a bankruptcy to me.

My favorites from Pop? There´s so many. Discotheque, Mofo, If God Will Send His Angels (although I´m not religious at all), Staring at the Sun ("It´s not as good as One! It´s unfinished! Yakety-yak, yakety-yak!"), Gone, Playboy mansion, If you wear that velvet dress (one of Edge´s best "solos"), Please and Wake up dead man.The 3 songs I didn´t mention: Do you feel loved, Last night on Earth and Miami: each one of these songs alone beats the last two albums.
