Dusty, Beatles, and other UK artists then preferred Martha and the Vandellas to the more glamourous Supremes. Not to insult The Supremes. I'm a fan of theirs, too, but they were presented as the princesses of Motown. Martha and the Vandellas, the Marvelettes, and the Velvelettes were great girl groups. They were pretty and nicely costumed but were allowed to rock more and not be so proper and ladylike. The UK artists liked that. Less formality appealed to them. It was refreshing.

You know, I don't really care for Martha's live vocals as much as I do her recourded stuff. And btw, The Supremes were VERY talented in and out of the studio

Thank you very much for putting this up-it is EXCELLENT! I love the sound of the 60's "girl groups", because at that time the singers HAD to have good voices both in and out of the recording studio.Of course looks, image, sexiness, counted as well. Concerts, and shows like Ed Sullivan or Ready Steady Go in the UK had to please the eye! Voices mattered most, with a few exceptions such as the Supremes.(RIP,Florence)This video is delightful. All 4 have charm and skills that are almost extinct.
