Phil did, however, do a fantastic job taking the reigns from Gabriel with Trick of the Tail. That is still one of my favorite Genesis albums, although works like "Can Utility and the Coastliners" are timeless and magical. Executed with theory and profound thoughtful lyricism in mind.

Genesis was at their best before Peter and Phil split... Phil took Genesis down the path of commercial/pop - didn't like it. Now the early days... with Peter... they were unbelievable, I saw them 3x's in the early to mid 70's - possibly my best concerts ever!
