ah faint praise from the yank - put 'taimse i mo chodladh' into the search box and hear a beautiful song from iarla o lionaird - hear a delicious and haunting song - we are a modern country now.. we honour our past by our present.

the quiet man was not well received in Ireland when it was first released (we thought it did not depict the modern post-war ireland!). you have to admit though, the scenery and cinematography were breathtaking and some of the performances (victor maclaglan, barry fitzgerald, arthur shields) were memorable. anyway enjoy the magnificent singing of dolores keane, the video depicts the unique beauty of her country. no real irishman would ever call anyone an idiot- eegit sounds much more agreeable.

You are not a kind person. You should not call a person an Idiot. That is not nice at all. You should really say you are sorry for calling a person you don't know an Idiot. Oh well I forgive you any way. I guess you are one of the tough people you speak of but I have my doubts about that.

You're an idiot... the quiet man is from the 1950's and has no similarity with modern ireland... the west coast as depicted here is the beauty of the country and represents a tough people.. the picture of dun aengus from aran is pure beauty - stand there on a clear day and you can see the whole west coast of this beautiful country - the quiet man is a yank portrayal of ireland - nice sentiment but in the 1950's! delores keane the singer is the like of we'll never again see.. beautiful singer.

I just feel the music would fit in better with other parts of Ireland. The movie Quiet Man with john Wayne and Maureen O'hara was mentioned in a post by someone here and that movie shows the Idealic place I like to think of as Ireland. Not rocky cliffs that look like a wall built to keep people out, along with a cold looking sea splashing about that also looks like a barrier. I don't think this video would attract the average tourist that have seen the movie Quiet Man.
