devastating movie......best film made ever. funny thing is watching it with first timers and they think they've got it!!! I can only remember one person who got it (almost fully) the first time. university kid, very smart who had taken some psych courses.

this movie is great, at first i didnt quite understand it but when i read the story in the net i much appreciate it. it make sense. i love it.=) ei watch this movie also Happy go Lucky by sally hawkins its funny.

Yes, it's about a character dreaming a new identity , according to a dream-logic, reflecting her guilt and frustrated desires. Folk who watch this and go "I don't understand, it's so confusing!", I wonder if they just haven't been paying attention! But...I think the film retains the ambiguity that the world of Betty and Rita could be another plane of reality,not just Diane's dream. Is the portal just sleep? Like Twin Peaks, it can have a genuinely supernatural interpretation. I love this film!

the movie starts with her going to sleep and then she literally 'wakes up' 2/3s of the way into the movie...not becoming someone else but being who she really is. depressed Diane Selwyn after having committed a very terrible act. a heartbreaking movie..

SPOILER...SPOILER....SPOILER...this is the simplest movie to understand. lynch almost screams its meaning to you in your face! THERE IS NO BAND, "NOW I'M IN THIS DREAMPLACE!"...like lost highway this is a movie about wishful thinking and the clash between desire and reality.

Open interpretation... Yeah it's one of those films like Duneor Santa Sangre... dreamlike, trippy, maze with no exit. One must watch MD on acid... very bad trip.
