John Cardiel Mini Ramp Session 1990

In homage to Cardiel tributization on Epicly Later'd, I thought I would put up some raw footage from a Mini Ramp session I filmed with John up in Grass Valley/Lake of the Pines for the Venture or Dogtown Video back in 1990. Cardiel was one of my favorite skaters to film, all around great person.

"Everyone" loves Cardiel because they're told to. Phelps and the Thrasher crew propped Cardiel up a lot because they were good friends and dug him, and so people bought into all the skate Messiah sentiments about him. But he's no original. He didn't bring anything different in terms of innovation. As for Phelps bias, there isn't one picture or word of Rodney Mullen in that book. How hostile is that?

dude, honestly cardiel deserved it. he skated with more speed and style than most. i'm not going to say that he was the best but he definetly deserved SOTY 93. and if jake phelps wants to decorate built to grind with cardiel who cares. i highly doubt everyone who loves cardiel is wrong and that your opinion has to be right.

It looks like you responded to me. I'll be 35 years old next month, started skating in 86, and in response to someone else, I was saying Cardiel on the mini ramp here was a pretty high standard for 1990. Maybe you should read English instead of reacting emotionally and judging. I'm not hating Cardiel, I just don't think he should have some cred as the most hardcore skater ever.

All these haters make me laugh.it's like saying "Hendrix is a whack guitarist cos he doesnt do any tech stuff and plays simple shit".what makes Cards so great is just how full-on he attacks shit and the heart and soul he puts in. jc is definitely my hero. i dont know any other pro skater right now that can get me stoked just from scratchin some cope
