MAHALIA JACKSON Live late 1960's We shall overcome
We shall overcome--very moving she gets totally saturated with the song, even at the end as she walks from the mic the power of her voice is still overwhelming. This song was a staple of the civil rights movement, Mahalia worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King. She also sang Precious Lord at his funeral in 1968

I'm so happy I got this pearly rendition of We Shall Overcome and I'm thanking the Lord and Mahalia and "effeco" for such a priceless gift. How hot the tears that from my heart found their way to my eyes...She turned an already beautiful protest song into a deeply felt act of faith and I've no doubt the Lord was in her heart when she sang it for there are emotions that just go beyond the human ability to experience if the Lord isn't there with you. Blessed be the Lord and "effeco" for the gift

I'm a Christian, and just wanted to apologize that you weren't allowed to express appreciation of the song without getting grief for it.

Good for you. I'm enjoying it in my own right.

The song in my opinion was inspired by the Spirit of God to place faith in the hearts of the people to give them power to overcome..and life is one of the blessings that Gods love has bestowed upon you and me..and I'm enjoying it in Jesus Name

I can separate Mahalia's song from her religious beliefs. Joan Baez sang this song and it became a song of protest in the 1960s - nothing to do with God, just protesting about injustice and war. Nice of you to tell me God loves me but I've seen no evidence of his love in my long life.
