Its the logo of Famous Monsters Magaizine, Danzig just turned it into Misfits instead of Monsters.

what everyone now calls "the crimson ghost" (which is where danzig got it) was called the "fiend" back then by the band.but the logo that say MISFITS and is still used today was drawn by danzig.

the band doesn't need to continue. they broke up in the early 80's, and using the same name and look doesn't mean the band continues. this is a misfits tribute band now who also happen to release some of their own original material.
