maybe to some people those "opportunities" dont mean anything. there are more important things then college.

I suppose that we can't live alone, we need others, so probably living in society in another way, more authenthycal, with fewer social differences and models to be conformed, could already make the difference between freedom and alienation of the individual in the system-machine

true, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. the only way to truly be free is to sacrifice everything and remove yourself from society. but supertramp, at least in the movie, still enjoyed living among people to a certain extent. he just felt controlled by the intense consumerism around him. the fight with his parents at the beginning of the movie shows his distaste for material possessions.but i see what you are saying about individuality and society. well put.

yes..the point is: if we all would do the same, as we should, what could happen? or in another way: a society to go on needs individuals to follow rules, not to be freely themselves (as it should be the best for their self-improvement)

the point of the movie is that we are controlled by society, and we spend our lives making money raising children so that they can repeat the cycle. by letting go of everything material he becomes truly free.

...an IDIOT!Who traded the good life, basically for anorexia & heartbreak. So many would give their left arm for the opportunities he had, and he wasted his life. The only good thing IT ALL led to, was this soundtrack. Each to their own, but I reckon - don't trade your own imaginations for well advertised and presented movies with good casts! Have a good think about what this guy REALLY did with his life. What was it he said, "experiences are best shared", took a lot for him to realise it

I try to talk of a universal condition in this historical moment...can you understand me?

I agree wth you...if you face real modern life, if you begin to think, it's fucking boring! everything is known, we can't expect anything new, there's no mistery, even if you go to the jungle to look for adventure...we can only work, have a family, pretend we're happy and everything is perfect...but we are only hiding the real problem, which is, BOREDOM and LACK OF SENSE...and I'm not taling of my personal experience,

there are ways around thisbut for most people living in developed countries this is true
