Because his aim was perfect and she was afraid that he would kill her brothers. Also, she thought that her brothers seeing him like that will take pity/accept their love. Apparently, it didn't turn out that way and her brothers killed him. She died in grief. You can search for the story online. I'm not sure as to how accurate my description is.

My advice to young lovers: Try and spot if she has traits of Sahaban in her. If she does: DITCH HER.

this is a philospical love story , nobody is wrong or right. Sahiban's brothers were protecting her honour. But, it just shows she berays her lover, when she has to pick between family and her love. Beautiful Song though!!!

The story is part of culture in Punjab as a whole. But the story actually takes place in Pakistani Punjab. There is no legend about it. It is a true story. The families akin to Sahban always cursed Mirza clan and their poetry reflects that. But generally Mirza's family have the higher moral ground. Sahban family was later condemned as her brother showed abject cowardice.
