Nationality is derived from the word "nation". An example of a nations would be China. A group of similar nationalities is called a race.An example of a race would be Asian.The two aren't interchangeable all the time. For your Mexican comment, Mexican would be a nationality. The race would be Hispanic.Please make the correct distinction when you're trying to correct someone.

Even though they operate independently from China, Taiwan is not recognized a sovereign nation by the U.N. This is because every attempt to become independent is vetoed by China because China is a permanent member of the U.N. Council. China isn't really trying to "take over," per say, but they definitely are not in favor of Taiwan's independence.
