as much as i agree to the both of you, there's is the problem of her growing up with such a different accent. imagine japanese starting to learn french or as simple as english in America. we cannot compare Utada Hikaru because she's been in the US for what, since she was a kid i think, Leah only transferred for as mentioned, 2 years. but yeah, she needs to learn more

so after being in japan for a little more than 2 years, she still can't speak japanese fluently? I mean, it would be one thing if she was learning japanese in america, but come one, she has been surrounded by japanese speaking people every day for two years and that still isn't enough?
