Palo drumming and dancing - Vodou - Dominican Republic

http://www.earthcds.com/caribb... Culture of Palo', aspires to be a humble archival collection of all the marvelous musical-religious expressions encountered in the course of filming 'MISTERIOS' that for editorial, timing and formatting reasons was not possible to include in it. This footage is presented as a valuable and long-awaited addition to the scarce material available on the subject of religious music and traditions in the Dominican Republic. Anthropologists, ethno-musicologists and the general public will find this work entertaining and educational. It will also offer them a new and valid teaching tool, but most of all, help preserve at least a small part of this rapidly disappearing and mutating oral tradition.Buy this DVD here: http://www.earthcds.com/caribb...

that is false. Alot of haitians reject voodoo is looked down upon, since their catholic, they think it is some diabolic practice. Its an African religion though. but some ppl in the country side practice it.

As a voduisan, I have to correct you. Vodou is monotheistic. Lwas serve as intermediaries to God, go-betweens between humanity and the divine.

budgielover:I'd like to say that most people (since i'm Haitian, I'll say Haitians) who do vodou don't see it as a religion, but part of their culture and who they are. They tend to label it "practice".Secondly, I don't know what you mean by "polytheistic", since the lwas are not considered "gods", but spirits. There is only one God in vodou, and that is the Almighty. The lwas are the only ones able to communicate with Him, but there's no mistaking that there is only one God.

The word Vodou in Fon language (from western Africa) means 'Sacred Object' or a type of God. Since it is a polotheistic religon.
