Most Goosebumps stories were some kind of reference to something like that. That's one of the beauties of children's books, you can make obvious references to classics without getting yourself sued over it.

What I liked about this episode at the time more than anything was Brooke, or really, the actress that played her. At the time I had a huge crush on her, and I haven't been able to find out more information about what she's doing now or what she looks like now.
