about the crime, things are getting better now since authorities are finally getting a hand of it.. but the place is still tourist friendly and anyone would have an awsome time, highly recommended to anyone wanting to have a nice relaxing time..

Yeah, I agree with 'dearsaze', and the crime has risen even more since then. The criminal element from mainland Honduras comes over to Roatan more than ever. Drugs, robbery, and even murder is common on the Island. sad

I spent allot of time on Roatan & Utila in 2001-2002. I agree with all of the good things you say about it. On the downside I saw a big jump in the crime rate in the 18 months I was there. 98% fue to drugs. After a few months it does get old.

It's PARADISE! and also...the food??? oh! deeeeelicious!!!! and its people...always....sweet!!!! beautiful..place!!! and still....'organic' the best part!!!

I did some scuba diving in Roatan and it was very nice. My favorite diving I've done is Cozumel and then the Cayman Islands but you can't go wrong just about anywhere in the Caribbean. Plus I'm used to cold California diving wearing a thick wetsuit. Warm water diving is a pleasure.
