37 rehearsals, not 137. And I often find myself preferring Erich's interpretations, quite often they're more spontaneous and a tad less mannered than Carlos', especially when it comes to Beethoven.Of the period instrument conductors Brüggen certainly does the best Colorian, dark, driven, piercingly aggressive and but never as stiff.

I would have liked the last two chords.

Oh yeah, the Academy of Ancient Music under Christopher Hogwood took this faster than in this video

I agree with you, I listened to Beethoven's 3rd and 5th simphonies conducted by Erich Kleiber with COncertgeb Amst. In my opinion these are among the best ever performances, especially the 5th, it's extraordinary

Yes, Beethoven always wanted it fast.

A powerful dynamic performance! Some here have complained it was too fast, but that was his part of his style...very driven but always musical. His father, Erich, was a great Beethoven conductor as well...also conducted the premier of Wozzeck after 137 rehearsals!! If you don't know Erich Kleiber's Beethoven, look for his recordings!
