I was at the event, and the internet connection at the venue was completely maxed out, which I believe is why the pres didn't work. The presentation used in Sydney (almost identical to this one) is available at on the Gears site under samples so you can see it working for yourself.

How ironic. The Google Presentation (proof!) doesn't load, and he has to switch to the offline version. No Gears implementation in non-released services yet ;)Cool technology though.
