I mean interracial marriages are different, and used to be considered "non-traditional". We don't call their marriages "civil unions" b/c of it, and I'm sure you'd agree that "separate but equal" didn't work in the past, so why would you think it'd work now? Yes, I know, you are going to tell me that being gay is behavior and being black isn't, but like I've said before, you can't change your sexual orientation any more than your skin color and you can be celebate and be gay at the same time...

Yeah, it's like 2:45 where I am, but my hours are kind of messed up at the moment, so to me it's not super late. Talk to ya later...

"My argument all along has been that two things don't have to be identical to be equal."Yes, I agree, but I really don't think you can dispute the fact that the term "civil union" is considered to be less than the term "marriage"...

I guess this is where we will probably always disagree, because I don't see any implied connection between respecting heterosexuality and disrespecting homosexuality. My argument all along has been that two things don't have to be identical to be equal. In other words, not being identical does not make two things unequal, and calling two things that are not identical by an identical name weakens them both in a sense. It must really be late - I'm beginning to sound like Playa.Later, Ann

"If I was gay, of course I would want to "marry" the person I loved, but as long as it was legally recognized in exactly the same way as traditional marriage I would WANT it to be called something else."I think you'd probably take issue with your love being called a "civil union" instead of a marriage, which is implies that it is somehow lesser...

You should take a look at a video called "Former ex-gay leaders apologize" to get an idea of what I'm talking about. Also, although I doubt it's something you'd be interested in enough to take the time to watch, there's a documentary called "For the bible tells me so", and you can watch it online for free...

"Ultimately, for those of us that truly do care about the feelings, values, and love between other people - any solution MUST respect the values of BOTH sides, or it isn't a solution at all, its just a trade."I'd have to disagree. I'd say not if those values are anti-gay (not saying you necessarily) that perpetuate shame, self-loathing, depression and ultimately hatred and violence against others and oneself. Sorry, but absolutely not. I would never respect that...

"typical boring and childish arguments from gays. this lady just cries about how it "feels feels feels" but never once has anything of substance to say"Unlike McCain who used ALL SORTS of substance-filled arguments right??? Oh, that's right, he didn't use one. He just stated his position and that was that. Speaking of hypocrits...
