I think they ought to preserve at least one of these for posterity, maybe bring it ashore as a museum

out of the 7 forts (army/navy) that were in the Thames Estuary (excluding the Mersey Estuary) Only 4 remain. Tongue Sands off Margate, fell into the sea in the 1990's, Nore Was dismantled in the 59 and Sunk Head Fort off Frinton on Sea was blown up on Government instructions. Also a ship crashed in one of the Towers on Shiveing Sands in 1963. Part of the tower end up in Southend.

There were 2 designs of these forts, one design was Army manned and the second Admiralty designed and Navy manned, All survive except one of the Navy forts blown up in the sixties to prevent its use in illegal activity.

I'm surprised that some of the are still standing. They were never fully anchored to the sea bed.

Nice one! I went on a boat trip today to sea the Shivering sands and Knock John forts, still an awesome sight!
