Nah, only a joke my friend. Like you I have a hard time trying to reason why these huge bulk carriers run into eachother. Exxon did pay for the cleanup (into 8.9 million)by 1995 but of course the devestation on wildlife is beyond comprehension. Capt Joseph Hazelwood after being found guilty of being drunk on the bridge and allowing an unseasoned pilot to the helm was only stripped of his "Capt" license only. He is currently "teaching" the arts of seamanship on the east coast somewhere..like WTF

He only got fined $35.00 with another fine? He should have gone to jail for that. Just imagine the cost of the repairs on both ships. He only got fined $35.00 and another fine (that might have been not enough) and the repairs might have cost around $1,000,000,00 each or more. Then the companies owning the ships would have lost a fortune in business while the ships were being repaired. I believe a lot of cargo ships are overloaded and top-heavy, then they can lose some of their loads.

Exactly true. This I believe was Capt Joe Hazelwood's final driving test before he was given the Exxon Valdez. Here he was fined $35 dollars for taping the accident instead of trying to avoid it. He was fined again after he was spotted hanging off the front of the ship trying to paint over the dents.

How can each not have seen each other? Two ships about five hundred feet long by about one hundred feet wide and they never saw each other. What have they been drinking? Who needs The Poseidon Adventure with those dipsticks in charge. I wouldn't even trust them to make their way out of a phone box.
